Gunnedah's Civic Centre is a multi-purpose centre which houses a cinema, the town hall and the Gunnedah Creative Art Gallery (see Country Art Escape No 37).
The Civic Cinema is situated in the heart of Gunnedah. Patrons to the cinema are able to watch the latest releases, while enjoying comfortable seating, crystal clear picture and surround sound. The cinema program caters for a diverse audience with blockbusters and regular sessions of art-house and archival films. The Creative Arts Gallery houses the Gunnedah Shire Council Town Collection consisting of one hundred and fourteen works of art including the Dorothea Mackellar's Society collection 'My Country' by Jean Isherwood. As custodian of these collections we endeavour to preserve, maintain, and exhibit the collections through curatorial, educational and promotional programs.
The Curlewis library is in the Town Hall, and includes several cupboards with a full range of adult and childrens books. Storytelling and handicraft sessions are held here every Monday from 1.30pm - 3.00pm. The library is also open from 3pm - 5pm on Wednesdays.
