Why does Nundle have a Woollen Mill?

To showcase our world-famous National fibre with our own range of fashion-dyed yarns, hand knitted garments and a selection of fine Australian Wool products.

To preserve a part of Australia’s wool textile history and show it working for all the people who visit Nundle.

To provide a textile educational facility for primary and high schools, TAFE and University training in the wool industry from fibre to finished garments.

To provide jobs for the local people so that Nundle is a country town in which people wish to live in to bring up their families and have a quality of life not available elsewhere.

The Nundle Woollen Mill shop opens onto an observation deck where visitors can join a tour to view the day's tasks, be it opening and picking bales of wool, spinning, twisting, or dyeing yarn. While the mill exterior is a composition of natural hues, the interior is an explosion of colour. 8 ply, 12 ply and 20 ply yarn, spun and dyed in an extensive range of fashion colours, has the uplifting impact of a rainbow.

Nundle Woollen Mill is a must-see attraction for travelers visiting Nundle. The mill enjoys almost 25,000 visitors each year who see the antique machinery in work. Also available is an exciting selection of hand knits and Australian designer wool fashion. The famous Nundle socks are hard to pass up!
